Our Mission Statement: 'To ensure that every student has access to education whenever possible'
Inequity in internet access for public school students has been and continues to be a problem in America. In this era of the Coronavirus Pandemic, this stark discrepancy is impacting educators’ best efforts to provide equal learning opportunities for all students. For the lowest tier of the digital discrepancy, teachers are sending home or asking parents to pick up work packets. They are filled with many notes from the teachers so that the students feel their teachers are with them. On the other end of the spectrum, digitally advantaged students are in constant virtual contact with their teachers and schoolmates. Their opportunities are boundless and put them on a trajectory to maintain their current learning gains. This outcome is out of the realm of possibilities for their lowest tier schoolmates.
This digital divide is not only prevalent in the access of the students, but also in the adaptability of the teacher workforce. Teachers who have never taught online lessons or frequently implemented technology into their teaching arsenal are as overwhelmed as the students they need to serve. Teachers are resourceful and are using their skill sets to meet the eLearning demand thrust upon them. For those overwhelmed by the demand, in order to compensate, they look to their districts for guidance on upskilling. The solution has to work, so let us show you how.
